Le Biomimetisme
Qu'est-ce que le biomimetisme ?
What does Biomimicry bring to our society ?
Biomimicry is a compilation of innovations inspired by nature to resolve our actual problems and to make our life easier to live. These innovations are respectful compared to nature and also more economical.
Janine Benyus, an American scientific, is the initiator of biomimicry. She wrote the book “Biomimicry: Innovation Inspired by Nature” which brought this subject to the broad public in 1997. She is also a co-founder of the Biomimicry Institute, an organism which offers resources for research in this domain.
Janine Benyus divides biomimicry into three categories:
- Nature as a model
- Nature as a measure and
- Nature as a mentor.
One of the most interesting solutions that biomimicry offers is the development of artificial limbs.
This is a perfect example of an innovation which resolves problems of persons who are amputated or handicapped in order to help them to lead a normal life.
When we did our, we discovered the story of Maxence, a 6 year old child. He was born without his right hand. He became an artificial limb, made with a 3D printer. This artificial limb is easy to do, so it gave us the idea to make our artificial limb.
